ERIKA SANADA

The artwork of Erika Sanada anthropomorphizes anxieties and insecurities into beautifully unusual creatures. Inspired by supernatural movies and animations, Erika’s aesthetics are based in and informed by magical and fantastic scenarios. The animals that inhabit these worlds have physical abnormalities that are reflective and representative of anxieties present within the mind of the artist, and by which these thoughts and feelings may be reconciled with through encountering them in an externalized fashion. The animals she creates are both precious and fierce, strong and sensitive. They are vulnerable and appear to be soft despite the teeth and claws, fitting in perfectly with the narratives her work surrounds. With a delicate hand and masterful craftsmanship, her work is composed into dynamic compositions and imbued with a surreal feeling that the sculpture object is very much alive and ought to be cared for.
