BRIAN D. SMITH
Brian D. Smith' seventh solo exhibition at the Duane Reed Gallery explores themes of memory and process. A dedicated painter, his recent artwork conveys a spirited, emotional and painterly quality by way of dazzling optical effects. Bold shapes of color and texture interact with pattern and collage to form the likeness of places found in the natural world. The dynamic play of space welcomes the viewer into scenes that are open to interpretation. Distinct and direct, Smith's new paintings continue to push the formal elements of abstract expressionism towards a fresh and eclectic blend of symbolism and figuration.
Brian Smith is Professor of Visual Art and Visual Art Program Coordinator,
