A graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, Xandersmith introduces warps, glitches, and digital surrealism  into her painted works, taking the form of standard stretched canvases, scenery backdrops, and theater flats. Encouraging the viewer to engage with works on planes beyond the wall, Xandersmith interrogates the authorities of concealment, revelation, and the “in-between.”

“I call my paintings and my painted installations the in-between. They depict places that are not tangible, but psychological. In the in-between, dualities can collide and interact: the past and the present, the human and the digital, the imagined and the real... My work is a way of combating the dread and endless questions I have about my relationship with time, technology, and the paradox of self awareness.” - Artist Statement
