KATIE CHUNG
Katie Chung is a sculptor, illustrator and mural artist inspired by the history of her materials. Her current body of work utilizes dry cleaning tags, fabric shears, and sewing pins sourced from her mother’s business. As a second generation Korean-American, Chung interrogates immigration and cultural identity by elevating these often disposable elements of labor, incorporating repetition and evidence of sacrificed time: a parallel to the costs paid by those who came before her.
Chung was born and raised in Chicago and received her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, became resident printmaking artist at Lillstreet Art Center and a member of Candor Arts: a Chicago-based resource for the design and production of handmade artist books. She is a two time recipient of the IAP D-CASE Cultural Grant from the City of Chicago. Chung has exhibited her art around the U.S. and created mural designs for companies like Facebook, Google, Lush Cosmetics, Amplifier Art Organization, Live Nation, Lollapalooza Music Festival, and Adobe.
