DIRK STASCHKE
Dirk Staschke is a sculptor and ceramicist inspired by still lives and subjects of Dutch Vanitas, translating techniques of the old masters into contemporary textures and forced perspective. His current body of work intersects painting and sculpture, illustrating the sides of ceramic vessels with adapted still lives, or building three dimensional framed tableaus.
Staschke received his MFA from Alfred University and BFA from the University of Montevallo. His teaching experience includes time at Emily Carr University, Alfred University and New York University. His work has been shown in the Smithsonian Museum in Washington (DC), Icheon Museum, World Ceramic Center (Gwango-dong) South Korea, Crocker Museum (CA) and the Portland Art Museum (OR). He has been awarded prizes and grants from The Virginia Groot Foundation and the Canada Council on the Arts.
He currently resides in Portland, Oregon maintaining a full-time studio practice.
