CARLOS GAMEZ DE FRANCISCO
Carlos Gamez de Francisco was born and raised in Holguín, Cuba amid heavy cultural censorship and limited access to materials. Undeterred, Gamez de Francisco rose though academia heavily governed by the Russian Academy before moving to the United States at 21 years old.
Gamez de Francisco’s work focuses on classic figures and historical styles, recontextualized to prioritize broader inclusivity: subjects unconfined by personal wealth and the stoicism of traditional portraiture. The result is a record from an alternate history, constructing an epoch of euphoric joy, diversity, and anachronistic style.
