Photographs keep a subject alive and at the same time mark its passing.  With the series Italy , Eastman brings to life the elegance of a time past.  Through a painterly and intuitive approach he reveals the beauty of neglect and state of decay that has a tendency to hide the glory of days gone by.  Much like the acclaimed “Cuba” series, Eastman’s use of texture, color and composition take us on a remarkable and breathtaking journey.  Eastman says, “I’ve often been accused of being more of a painter than a photographer.  I used to think it was a criticism, but I have recently realized that is who I am.” 

Eastman's work is in many collections, including those of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the International Center of Photography in New York City, The Art Institute of Chicago, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Eastman has been the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Grant and has been published in Time, The New York Times, Life, and American Photographer.
